Workshop Construction 2014

Workshop construction or should I say BBQ area rebuild?

BBQ and Shed

BBQ and Shed

As we have used it once in the last 4 years I think it is a bit of a waste of space. the old shed needed to come down as there was rot in the roof, bottom of the back wall, side and floor. So Saturday 3rd May 2014 and

Back wall and some of the floor.

Back wall and some of the floor.

Around the back were some 160 paving bricks. These will go in to the steaming bay area just in front of the new shed end of the workshop. They had been stood on what I thought was soil,  turned out to be 3 inches of leaf mould on top of the concrete slab!

5th May

Got the bricks all moved into the centre of the building.  Probably a mistake but we will see. By the end of the day the frame had been started for the shiplap panelling.

Shed space

Shed space now clear.

Continued with the frame.  now past the door and down the side for the shed.  I’ve left a 560mm (22inch) gap  to the fence so I can get down and clear up the leaves Will also do the same across the back where I can.

18th

Build the first of the two half panels for the back wall. the very bottom panel is painted then wrapped in plastic in an attempt to keep it from rotting if the leaves aren’t cleared often enough

Long weekend next week should get some good progress.

23rdMay.

yes I know its Friday but its a nice day and due to be bad over the weekend so I thought Id get all the panels for the side cut and painted.  I’ll get some work done tomorrow when its raining.

24th

It rained in the night and the ends of the panels were jutting out 🙁 where did the rain from the roof go?  you guessed it dripped onto the timber and then ran down into the middle of the shed doh!  Anyway went and picked up the roof panels  got 7 of them up

25th

only worked until lunch today as had family commitments but got the roof finished as far as I can without the longer ladder and the first part of the joggle that’s in the back wall.  The Joggle is to get clearance to get round to clear leaves from the back of the building  here is a pic of the panel ready to go in.

26th

Now have most of the back corner completed and will get the long side panels that are already painted in on the next work day.

and finally a shot round the back.  The step gives me 2ft clear from the boundary wall so I can get down and clear the beach leaves.  IMG_1336

28th May

Got the long wall panels on

IMG_1342 IMG_1343 Again the wall is 2ft from the boundary so I can get the leaves out.

31st May

The final big section of the back wall is in place.

This, like the one next to it is screwed in so I can take it out to clear behind and paint when needed.  And yes it is clear of the upright. The final bit is to panel that separately. I did not but up to the beam as the conduit for the Electrics is on that side.  I thought it would stop me at a later date whacking a screw into the upright with all the associated pyrotechnics 🙂

Fri 6th June
Finished the last bit of the back wall and began the side

Sat 7th June
Well considering today was supposed to be all rain and thunder all we had were about 5 claps of thunder and one torrential down poor, so we got on really well. James came and helped and all the cladding is now done. Well bar a couple of little bits.

Gave up using old glass too brittle the sheets are just shattering so ordered new. That’s my wallet £130 lighter.  They will be here middle of next week.

thoughts are turning to where the plug sockets need to go. to that end I need to workout where the machines and the bench need to go.
